Bem, vamos ao que interessa: o bom e velho jazz. Percebi que ainda não havíamos postado nada de um dos grandes nomes do sax alto, um dos herdeiros da verve parkeriana: Phil Woods. Corrijo agora essa falha.Deparei-me com a coletânea Phil Woods early quintets, com boas gravações de 1954 e 1959. São oito faixas que agradarão a todos aqueles que têm o jazz como horizonte. Sim, senhores, Woods e seus companheiros nos legaram momentos muito felizes com as sessôes registradas nesse disco. Nas quatro primeiras faixas o time é formado John Wilson (T), Jimmy Raney (G), Bill Crow (B) e Joe Morello - sim, é ele mesmo, aquele do antológico solo de bateria em Take five. Nas quatro faixas restantes (gravadas em 59), o trompetista é Howard McGhee, o piano fica com Dick Hyman, Teddy Kotick se encarrega do baixo e Roy Haynes da bateria.
Deixarei duas faixas (uma de cada grupo) no podcast Quintal do Jazz.

Apesar de ser um disco bom, as gravações de 1954 são bem superiores as de 1959: em tudo. O que não invalida o album. Ouçam e tirem suas conclusões.
